Where AI actually pays off for small businesses
Most small businesses don't need a custom AI model — they need hours back. The highest-return uses are unglamorous: drafting first-pass customer replies, summarising documents, tagging and routing enquiries, and automating repetitive admin.
The rule of thumb we use with clients: if a task is frequent, predictable and text-heavy, it's a candidate. If it requires judgement, relationships or accountability, keep a human in the loop.
Start with one process, measure the time saved, then expand. The businesses that win with AI aren't the ones with the most tools — they're the ones that picked one bottleneck and fixed it properly.
